It’s really important that you keep your licence up to date, including notifying the DVLA of any change of address. And not forgetting that you’ll need to renew your photocard licence every ten years! Not only could you be hit with a £1,000 fine for not doing so, it can affect your insurance too. If you needed to make a claim and your licence was out of date, you could find that your claim is rejected by the insurer.
With the stress of moving house and a whole host of jobs to get done pre and post move, it’s easy to overlook updating your licence. And you could be missing out on savings as where you live can lower (or increase) your insurance premium.
It only takes around five minutes and you can do it online via gov.uk.
Has your licence expired, or is due to expire between 1 February 2020 and 31 December 2020?
Due to COVID-19, there has been an automatic extension of 11 months from the date your licence was due to expire. You can however apply to renew your licence online at any time before the extension ends.
